March 13th, 2013: Wednesday Weekly Competition

.

On March 13th, Dean Smith won the Best Net Overall prize in catg. 1 on the Weekly Competition, but he had to pass it on to Peter Hopkins, because Dean won’t be in Balaia next tuesday morning for “Breakfast&Golf”!

John Lovett had a fantastic score of 27 points and won the Net prize in catg.2! John stated that this was his best round of golf in Balaia ever! Unfortunately John Lovett is not going to be here next tuesday either, so the prize moved on to Bob Edwards! John also managed to win the Birdie Chance prize too! What a day for Mr. Lovett!!

.

Paul Tookman won the 3rd and last category of the Best Net prize on the Members side, but as Dean Smith and John Lovett, he won’t be in Balaia next week as well to collect his prize! So once again we had to go down on the list to find Mick Cooper!

Wim Harbers won this week’s Best Net prize on the Visitors side! Congrats!

and finally Don Jeram won the Nearest to the Pin prize on hole #9!

One more day of good weather in Balaia! Pat Matthews and Eileen Farren sat outside for the prize presentation!

March 8th, 2013: Pedro Lemos Invitational PRO-AM

On March 8th, 2013 we at Balaia organized a very special PRO-AM tournament! Pedro Lemos the PRO went for a round and played 1 hole with each golfing group and then he would combine his score with each single player score in order to find a winner of this Competition!

Andy Berry won the Best Net prize award on the Gents category with a combined score of 26 points! Pedro promoted the prizes and he offered a fine bottle of Port wine to Andy!

Eileen Farren won the Best Net prize on the Ladies side and she complemented Pedro for the organization of the event, after receiving her bottle of Port! By this time the golfing crowd was sitting in the ClubHouse enjoying lunch, as Chef António Águas had prepared “chilli” for everybody!

This special Tournament organized by Balaia on this day was not for a reason: when everybody was sitting at the tables at the ClubHouse finishing their lunch, Pedro had an announcement to make…

in a very deep and emotional speech, Pedro announced that after being seven and a half years with us in Balaia he had taken a step forward and decided to accept a job opportunity as a Golf Pro in England, in the outskirts of London. Pedro thanked all his working colleagues and he thanked particularly Golf Manager Maria José Pinto, Balaia CEO Rui Justo and Gad Ron for the opportunity he was given to wear Balaia Golf Village colours for all these years. Gad Ron spoke to Pedro and thanked him for his great work in Balaia and wished him the best of luck in his career. John Luck representing the Balaia Owners told Pedro all the appreciation the Owners had for him and everybody applauded!

After hearing Pedro’s speech, everybody at the tables were moved and yet happy for him, as Pedro is dear to all Balaia Owners and friends!

.

and right after Pedro was finished with his farewell speech, everybody stood up and sang:

“For Pedro’s a jolly good fellow,
for Pedro’s a jolly good fellow,
For Pedro’s a jolly good fellow…
…and so say all of us!”

From the bottom of our hearts we wish you all the best for you and for your career, Pedro! You’ll be missed at Balaia and pay us a visit everytime you wish!

March 6th, 2013: Wednesday Weekly Competition

On the last Competition Ramesh Patel won the Best Net Overall prize in catg. 1, but Ramesh delegated the opportunity for qualification for the Matchplay Comp. to the golfer next in line on the scorelist, as Patel is already qualified. So Don Jeram will be present next tuesday morning to meet Maria José for “Breakfast&Golf”!

John Billett got the Best Net Overall prize in catg. 2 and he’ll also be present next tuesday morning at the ClubHouse for “Breakfast&Golf”!

Mary Page got a hold on the Best Net Overall prize in catg. 3 and will join Don Jeram and John Billett next tuesday morning!

Michael Sum was this week’s winner of the Best Gross prize in catg. 1 and he gave a big handshake to Pedro!

John Newton won the Best Net Prize on the Visitors side and he was also in contention for the Birdie Chance prize along with Ramesh Patel. Both players were the only ones scoring a birdie on this Competition and they decided to break the Birdie Prize in two! So both won, 50/50!
